Rory to the Rescue is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming animals who have no safe place to call home. Our primary focus is on neonatal kittens—those most at risk in shelter systems due to their dependence on human care for survival. We are a small but passionate team committed to giving these vulnerable lives a second chance.
We are seeking a compassionate and experienced part-time Medical Director to serve as the licensed veterinarian on record for Rory to the Rescue. This position offers flexible involvement, remote consultation, and an opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the lives of at-risk animals.
Serve as the Veterinarian of record for the organization, ensuring California compliance and establishing VCPRs as needed.
Review and approve medical protocols, treatments, and medication use within our foster program.
Provide medical consultation for rescue cases (via text, email, or phone), with a typical response time of 24–48 hours.
Authorize and oversee medication purchases using the rescue’s business account.
Sign off on required medical documentation (e.g., rabies vaccine records, prescriptions, and related forms).
Health certificate sign-offs for animal transport (typically one-hour monthly in-person visits).
Occasional in-person exams on an as-needed basis.
Surgical procedures may be explored in partnership with a local clinic if desired.
DVM/VMD with an active California veterinary license in good standing
Passionate about animal welfare and rescue work
Responsive, collaborative, and comfortable providing virtual medical oversight
Prior experience with shelter medicine or rescue programs preferred
