Position Summary:
The Associate Optometrist functions as the primary eye care provider for our practice. In this role, you will take on key clinical responsibilities while also embracing opportunities for leadership, mentoring staff members, and contributing to our vision of providing outstanding care. You will be instrumental in fostering a positive patient experience, ensuring quality care, and aligning with our practice’s mission and values.
Key Responsibilities:
- Clinical Performance Objectives:
Conduct Comprehensive Eye Exams: Perform full-scope ethical eye exams utilizing advanced optometric equipment and provide thorough diagnostic interpretation.
- Diagnose and Treat Eye Conditions: Identify and medically manage a wide range of ocular diseases including glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and macular degeneration, ensuring proper follow-up care and treatment plans.
- Eyeglass Services: Accurately prescribe, fit, and adjust eyeglasses to meet patients’ visual needs, providing thorough explanations of prescriptions.
- Contact Lens Fittings: Skillfully fit, prescribe, and educate patients on contact lenses, including specialty lenses and myopia management solutions.
- Patient Education: Offer comprehensive education on ocular health, preventive care, and lifestyle modifications to promote long-term vision health.
- Technology Utilization: Properly interpret and report diagnostic tests, such as Optos, OCT, VF, topography, pachymetry, and retinal and anterior segment photography.
Leadership and Team Support Objectives:
- Mentorship: Provide guidance, mentorship, and training to support the professional development of fellow staff members, fostering a collaborative learning environment.
- Patient Relations: Establish and maintain strong doctor-patient relationships built on trust, ensuring a high retention rate and a loyal patient base.
- Team Collaboration: Work effectively with optical associates and administrative staff to enhance patient flow, ensure seamless service, and maximize optical sales through proper education and recommendations.
- Practice Development: Participate in the strategic planning and development of the practice, contributing insights and recommendations to improve service quality and drive patient engagement.
- Community Engagement: Engage actively with the community to promote eye health awareness and the services offered by our practice.

Education and Experience:
- Doctorate in Optometry: Completion of a Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree from an accredited college.
- State Licensure: Active Rhode Island State Optometry License (with TX RX Amplified Glaucoma & Controlled Substance Registration required).
- Continuing Education: Meets all required state standards for COPE-approved hours of continuing education annually.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to spend prolonged periods standing, sitting, or walking. Must be able to lift at least 25 lbs.
- Perform work with OSHA-required PPE, including COVID-19 PPE.
