Our Optometrists
Dr. Melissa McLaughlin was born and raised in the Saint John River Valley in the village of Perth-Andover, New Brunswick. She graduated from Southern Victoria High School in 1995 and then attended the University of New Brunswick on an educational scholarship from 1995-1999; Dr. McLaughlin graduated with honors and received her Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Biology. She was then accepted into the Optometry program at theUniversity of Waterloo School of Optometry in Waterloo, Ontario.
In 2003, Dr. McLaughlin graduated with her Doctorate of Optometry and relocated with her husband Blair to Meadow Lake. Although her initial plan was to only stay in Meadow Lake for 2 years, Dr. McLaughlin and her husband fell in love with the small town feel of Meadow Lake and opened Vision North Eye Care in 2004. She is pleased to be a member of the community offering comprehensive eye care to other community members of all ages!
During her time in Meadow Lake, Dr. McLaughlin has been a member of the Chamber of Commerce and has volunteered her time to organize the Meadow Lake Walk for Lupus, a yearly fundraising event to raise awareness and funds for Lupus research, a cause near and dear to her heart. Dr. McLaughlin and her family enjoy everything outdoors; boating, fishing, camping, kayaking, snowshoeing, archery and hunting.
Dr. McLaughlin specializes in contact lenses, pediatric eye exams, ocular health and diabetic health eye assessments. She is also qualified to provide pre-operative and post-operative assessments for refractive laser surgery and cataract surgery. She is also qualified to diagnose and treat ocular infections and diseases and perform foreign body removals.
Dr. Meagan Hawkshaw was born and raised on a farm near the small town of Binscarth, Manitoba. From 2003-2006, she attended Minot State University in Minot, North Dakota on athletic scholarships for both volleyball and softball. She was then accepted into Pacific University College of Optometry in Forest Grove, Oregon, where she received her Doctor of Optometry with Distinction in 2010.
During her optometric studies, Dr. Hawkshaw was a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa international honor society. She was also a member of the AMIGOS Eye Care Club where she had the chance to travel to Tempoal, Mexico and provide free eye exams to underserved people. She thoroughly enjoyed this experience and looks forward to having the opportunity to participate in future trips as a doctor.
Dr. Hawkshaw and her husband appreciate the small town feel of Meadow Lake and keep busy throughout the year with local community sports. They enjoy golfing, softball, volleyball, basketball, badminton, and curling. Dr. Hawkshaw also donates her time to coach the Carpenter High School Varsity Girls Volleyball Team in the fall.
Dr. Hawkshaw is a member of the Canadian Association of Optometrists, Saskatchewan Association of Optometrists, Ocular Nutrition Society, and Women of Vision. She is specially trained in contact lenses, pediatric exams, cataract assessments, diabetic eye health, and ocular disease. She is also qualified for laser correction consultations and post-operative care. She joined Dr. McLaughlin at Vision North Eye Care in 2011 and takes pride in providing quality vision care and eye health assessments to people of all ages in Meadow Lake and the surrounding area.
