Founded in 1990 and incorporated in 1991, SHIELDS’ mission is to develop, deliver and evaluate culturally sensitive, comprehensive behavioral health, child welfare and supportive service models that empower and advocate for families high risk environment in South Los Angeles. Our goals are to: 1) promote family reunification and support families remaining intact in the community; 2) strengthen families through the provisions; 3) improve the general well-being of families through comprehensive health programs and preventative social services; 4) encourage self-sufficiency and economic independence.
For more than 20 years, SHIELDS has helped vulnerable children and families succeed in South Los Angeles. With an annual budget of over $20 million, SHIELDS currently employs more than 300 employees who provide services in over 30 programs that reach more than 10,000 children and parents each year.
