Tweedy Medical Group, established in 1942, is dedicated to providing a medical home for the ethnically diverse, medically underserved populations of South Gate, CA. Dr. Narcisco Azurin, President of Angeles Independent Physicians Association (Angeles IPA) took over the practice in 1983. With over 5,000 enrolled patients, Tweedy Medical Clinic is one of the major primary care providers in the South Gate community. Dr. Azurin, along with a physician assistant (PA) and a nurse practitioner (NP), are the primary healthcare professionals at this medical clinic.
The patient demographic of the clinic comprises of 85-95% Hispanic/Latino, 5% Asian/Pacific Islander, 5% African-American, and 1-2% Caucasian. In order to accommodate the diversity of the patient population, many staff members speak Spanish fluently. Basic medical Spanish of all staff is required. Tweedy Medical staff believe in the mission of maintaining patients’ health and well-being and strongly believe in preventative care. The service population is comprised of 85% adults, covering chronic disease, health maintenance, and mental health services, 5-10% pediatrics, including well baby/child checks, chronic disease, and health maintenance, and 15% women’s health, including health maintenance, pap smears, and family planning services.
