Overview:Founded in 1996,
UCP Wheels for Humanity (UCPWFH) increases access to mobility for children, teens and adults with physical disabilities in developing countries. Our goal is to make strategic investments in communities that leverage existing capacities and empower local stakeholders.
Our Focus: · Mobility: We provide appropriately fitted wheelchairs to individuals in need and build the capacities of local partner organizations to ensure continued clinical service and maintenance.
· Empowerment: We link people who have recently gained mobility to resources and establish community support networks to educate and create opportunities.
· Therapy: We train physical therapists and rural health workers in evidence based person-centered therapy models, and involve caregivers in ongoing therapy.
· Advocacy: We work directly with key individuals in the private, public, and social sectors to create systems that promote wheelchair provision, accessibility, and inclusive societies.
