Antimicrobial Use and Stewardship program (AUS) is the State’s program intended to promote actions that will slow the development of resistant bacteria associated with livestock and poultry that have negative public and animal health impact. The Veterinarian (Specialist) acts as the State’s antimicrobial stewardship expert for antimicrobial use and animal management practices as well as antimicrobial resistance monitoring. The incumbent will be the lead for Research Scientists and other staff in the monitoring program. Expertise in the area and ability to facilitate efforts with other government agencies and universities will be needed to develop comprehensive monitoring programs across species and production types of interest. Monitoring of livestock practices, antimicrobial use to measures positive and negative impacts on antimicrobial resistance patterns in animal pathogens will require some knowledge and experience in epidemiology, including longitudinal study design.
