Medela Physical Therapy
Under the direction of the Director of Therapy Services, the PT restores patient’s function, alleviates pain, and prevents disabilities by planning and administering medically prescribed physical therapy. Unless specifically required by law, rule, regulation, or local ordinance, all job attributes are preferred.
Physical Therapist Responsibilities:
- Meets the patient’s goals and needs and provides quality care by assessing and interpreting evaluations and test results; determining physical therapy treatment plans in consultation with physicians or by prescription.
- Helps patient accomplish treatment plan and accept therapeutic devices by administering manual exercises; instructing, encouraging, and assisting patients in performing physical activities, such as non-manual exercises, ambulatory functional activities, and daily-living activities and in using assistive and supportive devices, such as crutches, canes, and prostheses.
- Evaluates effects of physical therapy treatments and fit of prosthetic and orthotic devices by observing, noting, and evaluating patient’s progress; recommending adjustments and modifications.
- Completes discharge planning by consulting with physicians, nurses, social workers, and other health care workers; contributing to patient care conferences.
- Assures continuation of therapeutic plan following discharge by instructing patients, families, and caregivers in home exercise programs; recommending and/or providing assistive equipment.
- Documents patient care services by charting in patient and department records.
- Maintains patient confidence and protects company’s operations by keeping information confidential.
- Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
- Develops physical therapy staff by providing information; developing and conducting in-service training programs.
- Complies with federal, state, and local legal and professional requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions.

- Compassion: People come to you in pain, and will have concerns and doubts about their recovery. Physical therapists are people that want to help those in pain.
- Attention to Detail: Physical therapists need to observe a patient's issues, and analyze what is needed to help them ease their pain, without putting them at risk of further injury.
- Dexterity: You will use your hands to move a patient's body and provide therapeutic exercise.
- Interpersonal Skills: You will be working one-on-one with patients every day. You will need to like working with people in close situations, be a good communicator and listener. You will need to talk with patients and their families and be able and willing to deliver both good and bad news in most compassionate way possible.
- Stamina: Physical therapists may have to lift clients, and spend much of their time on their feet. You will need strength and stamina to do the job.

REQUIREMENTS and QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid California PT license. Required.
- Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation and automobile insurance. Note that we reimburse for mileage and/or provide a company car.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English; other languages capabilities are a big plus: especially Spanish.
- Schedule flexibility is necessary to meet the needs of patients.

- Occasional stooping. Frequent standing. Constant walking, sitting, climbing, reaching high/low levels, finger movement, feeling, speaking clearly, hearing conversationally, and seeing far and near.
